The New Gallery feature

New GALLERY Section

We have added a new feature to the forums - the New GALLERY button is at the top left of the page. This will enable members to add (upload) pictures without having to worry about re-sizing as the software does it for you. The process is very simple - exactly the same as uploading an attachement into a post if you have done that before.

Those that are able to link photos into threads can still (please) do that where possible - but we now have a specific area for pictures which should make it much easier to share good pics with everyone.

There are two different ways of adding pictures to the forum using the new gallery feature.

Firstly you can create your own personal albums through your control panels which ONLY YOU can add pictures to. Other people can view them, but cannot add any photos to your PERSONAL albums. These are all accessible through your control panel or by viewing in the Gallery section in the thread entitled 'Members Gallery'.

Secondly you can add pictures to ANY picture 'thread' in the Gallery section.

Creating Personal Albums of photos through your control panel (My Controls).

Go into 'My Controls'. You will see a new section available on the left titled 'YOUR ALBUMS'. Click on this and then chose the option 'CREATE ALBUM'. You are asked for:

Album Name. Put your user name within the title (Eg. Kingys Anglesey Photos)
Album Description. What the photos are. (Eg. Anglesey Trackday 27 & 28/8/05)
Public. Tick this box so other members can see the photos. If you dont tick this box no one else will be able to see the photos.

You have now created your album. 'Album Manager' shows you the details of your album. As you add further albums they will be displayed in a list, one below the other. Under the heading of 'CONTOLS' you can select an operation from the drop down menu:

Edit. You can edit the wording once uploaded.
Delete. You can delete images in your personal albums.
View. View images in that folder.
Upload Image. Add a photo to this album.

The first three are self explanitory and easy to use once you have a photo or two in your album(s). The last one (Upload Image) is used as follows:

Chose this option and a screen is loaded entitled 'POST IMAGE'. Put a short title where it says CAPTION. (Three or four words max please). Add a short description if you want in the text field. This can be left blank if preferred.
Click on 'BROWSE' to pick which image you want off your computer and it will be shown in 'IMAGE TO UPLOAD'. Click 'POST IMAGE'. Your photo will now be uploaded to your album.
The screen now goes back to the 'Album Manager' in your Control Panel and you have the option to view, edit (add comments) or delete the photo - Or upload another photo. You also have the option to create another album.

Now you have created a PERSONAL ALBUM you can view it in your Control Panel. If you ticked the 'PUBLIC' box when you created the album it can also be viewed by yourself and other members in the 'MEMBERS GALLERY' within the GALLERY section of the forum. Other members can view your pictures and add comments, just like adding posts to a thread.
Other members CANNOT add any pictures to your album though - only comments.

Adding photos directly to threads in the GALLERY section

*You cannot add photos to any albums in the 'Members Gallery' thread other than the albums YOU have created because these are personal albums created by each member through their control panel. You can add pictures to ANY other section in the Gallery though. Eg. Trackday Photos, General Photos, Favourite Car or model Pictures etc.

Go directly to the Gallery section by clicking on one of the links. Chose which section you want to add a photo to. Eg. Racing Pictures.
To add a photo click on 'NEW IMAGE'. Follow the instructions shown in the previous post (UPLOAD IMAGE) to add a photo.

Other Points Worth Noting

Slide Show

This option is available in all of the albums. If you click on it - Each photo will be displayed one after the other as a slide show. Chose the length of time for each photo to display (a couple of seconds is plenty) and then tick the box 'do not show forum headed/footer' so it just shows the photos.
You can stop the slide show at any time.

Subsections

If one of the sections in the Gallery has a 'SUBSECTION'. (You will see reference to it below the main title) it means that you can click on that for a specific thread. Eg Trackdays has a subsection for Monkeyfest and Anglesey Photos. Clicking on either of these will get you to all of the pictures for that specific event. You can add pictures in the normal way.
We can/will create a 'subsection' for any event where people have lots of photographs that want to be kept together.

Deletion of pictures

You can only delete pictures from your PERSONAL albums created through your control panel.
If you want photos deleted which you have added through the GALLERY section then please pm or email Admin to do it.

If you put pictures of goods 'for sale' in the gallery or pictures which you only want to show for a limited period, please remember to delete them as all of the memory taken by the photos is from the Forums allowance. Great
